How to download from Facebook
Facebook is the messiest of the major platforms for links, because video appears inside ordinary posts, in Watch, in Reels and in groups, and each surface produces a differently shaped URL. The thing that decides whether a link is usable is not its shape but the post's audience: only content set to Public is served without a login.

Check the audience first. Look at the small icon next to the timestamp on the post. A globe means Public. A pair of people, or a group icon, means it is only served to a signed-in, permitted audience - and that will not work.
Open the post on its own page. Click the timestamp under the poster's name. That is the permalink, and it takes you to a page showing only that post, which is the address you want.
Copy the link. Use the three-dot menu on the post and choose Copy link, or copy the address bar now that you are on the post's own page. In the mobile app, Share then Copy link does the same thing.

- The timestamp under a post is the most reliable way to reach its permalink. Facebook URLs assembled any other way often carry session context that means nothing outside your account.
- Videos shared into a group are governed by the group's privacy, not the original poster's - a public video reshared into a private group produces a private link.
- A shared post shows someone else's video. If you want the video itself, open the original post underneath rather than copying the reshare.
