How to download from Instagram
Instagram keeps video in three different places - feed posts, Reels, and the older IGTV-era uploads - and the way you copy a link differs between them. Stories are the exception: they expire, and they are tied to the account viewing them, so they have no shareable public address. Everything else on a public account has a permanent URL containing a shortcode that identifies the post.

Open the post on its own. Tap the post so it fills the screen rather than sitting in a grid. On the website, click into it so the address bar changes - a preview overlay on a profile page can leave you copying the profile URL instead.
Find the right menu. For a feed post, use the three dots at the top right of the post. For a Reel, use the paper-plane share icon down the right-hand side instead - the two live in different places and this trips people up constantly.
Choose Copy link. In the feed-post menu it is listed as Link or Copy link. In the Reel share sheet it sits in the row of options along the bottom, past the buttons for sending to individual people.
Paste it here. Drop it into the box above. You can leave the tracking parameters after the question mark in place - they are ignored.

- Single videos and carousels that mix photos and video. Carousel URLs point at the post as a whole rather than one slide.
- Reels
- Short vertical video, the format most Instagram video is published in now.
- IGTV-era videos
- Older long-form uploads on /tv/ links. These still resolve and generally redirect to the modern post view.
- Stories and Close Friends posts(not supported)
- Stories expire and depend on who is logged in. Close Friends content is restricted by design. Neither has a public URL.
Worth knowing
Tips for Instagram links
- The path segment tells you what you have: /p/ is a feed post, /reel/ is a Reel, /tv/ is an older long-form video, /stories/ is temporary and will not work.
- Everything after the question mark - igsh, img_index and similar - is share tracking. It can be deleted without breaking the link, which is worth doing before posting a link publicly.
- If the share sheet offers only "send to" options and no Copy link, the account is private and there is nothing public to fetch.
